ThyssenKrupp Teams Up with Charitable Recycling to Collect Cell Phones and Donate Proceeds to Remote Area Medical® (RAM) Volunteer Corps
With so many Americans using cell phones the number ending up in landfills each year is astounding. Cell phones contain many hazardous substances that can contaminate groundwater, soil and if burned can end up polluting the air we breath. ThyssenKrupp decided to team up with ISO 14001 certified The Wireless Source and their Charitable Recycling division to donate used cell phones collected by our employees. The proceeds of the donations benefit Remote Area Medical (RAM) Volunteer Corps. RAM is a non-profit volunteer airborne relief corps providing free healthcare, dental, eye care, veterinary services and education. Volunteer doctors, nurses, pilots, veterinarians and support workers participate in expeditions (at their own expense). Medical supplies, medicines, facilities and vehicles are donated. Old cell phones can be recycled and sent to those in economic need or even refurbished for 911 only use. The success of this program continues with offices across the country collecting phones and donating them.
