STAKEHOLDER COMMITMENTS
Stakeholder engagement is a vital component of the reporting process. In fact, research shows that companies that readily address their stakeholders and engage in interactive communications with them, have more sustainability strategies and practices in place.
To demonstrate our commitment to being a trusted, educational partner, ThyssenKrupp Elevator makes a concerted effort to consider the interests and needs of all those affected by our operations and products, including the diverse groups of employees, architects, contractors, property managers, suppliers, media, regulators, non-governmental organizations, communities, elevator consultant and the riding public.
Engaging our stakeholders allows us to generate new ideas that advance innovation in products and business practices. By connecting at different times with these important audiences, we are able to build trust and foster positive communications with our stakeholders while growing our reputation as an increasingly responsive and responsible company.
To compile our inaugural report in 2008, we examined ThyssenKrupp Elevator’s impacts on the environment and society and selected those impacts associated with high stakeholder interest to discuss in the report. We also sought stakeholder feedback during our initial sustainability gap assessment to help us further define the concept of leadership in sustainability within our industry. For future sustainability planning purposes, ThyssenKrupp Elevator does plan on following up with the stakeholder groups identified and examined for the 2008 Report.
For this report, feedback from internal and external stakeholders was used to support our approach and content. Internally, planning sessions were held with employees in New Construction, Installation, Field Administration, IT and Service to discuss and generate sustainability goals for 2012, 2015 and 2020. Many workable ideas and initiatives resulted from the productive sessions, including our current sustainability goals. Externally, we relied on feedback from our Cornerstone Partners at BOMA and AIA, respected elevator consultants in the industry and riders of our products to help shape our vision and sustainability goals.
ThyssenKrupp Elevator’s commitment to transparency with our internal and external stakeholders is evident in many, ongoing communications and initiatives:
